The NS-AW294 doesn't sound as clear as our top pick, but it does have a decent amount of bass and can play pretty loud. If you want decent outdoor sound but want to spend a little less, the Yamaha NS-AW294 is ideal-as long as you don't live in a place where blustery rainstorms are common, because the ported design may allow water to get in and damage the speaker. It's also better made than most affordable outdoor speakers, with a thicker enclosure and a sturdy, powder-coated mounting bracket. Because it's a fully sealed design, there's no concern about water, dust, or bugs getting in. It has enough bass for R&B, hip-hop, and rock music, and its relatively high sensitivity lets it deliver loud volumes when paired with a small amplifier. Its clarity beats anything we've heard from other models priced under $200 per pair, and it has a full, powerful sound that can easily fill a typical suburban backyard. The OSD Audio AP650 is the best value we've found in an outdoor speaker. We think the OSD Audio AP650 is your best choice in an outdoor speaker because it is built to tolerate harsh weather and ward off invasion by dust and bugs, it mounts easily in all sorts of situations, and it can play loudly even when connected to a small, low-powered amplifier. Outdoor speakers bring the music, radio, and podcasts we most love to one of the places we most love: the backyard. Will see how it fares when the heat of summer gets here - will probably be reaching for the silicone again.Īfter having one for awhile, I feel "naked" driving without a camera. This post was done in partnership with Wirecutter. Got the cam in the truck now, have not needed to silicone the suction cup as my Canyon does not have windshield dots.

The silicone peeled off the windshield and suction cup fine and with no trace. Moved it from the company car (which I only have for one more month) to the truck. Not entirely sure what happened and wish I had my camera in the truck. Saw a gnarly crash at the intersection in front of me, fortunately I was was far enough back not to be involved. I had just bought my truck a few weeks prior and still had the camera in my company car. Post silicone mod, the cup holds fast no matter what, even over the dots. My solution is to spread a thin layer of clear silicone caulk on the suction cup, install, let cure for 24 hours and then hang the camera from it.

The suction cup is average at best and would not hold over the Toyota Camry's "dots".

THE WIRECUTTER DASH CAM 1080P

I have an HP dash cam for a few years now, it is OK, does the job, shoots good 1080P video to a 32GB card and has lasted for two years now. The dots are slightly raised and prevent a camera's suction cup from holding. The twins do not have this problem, but a lot of vehicles have "dots" in front of the mirror to act as a 3rd visor. That one looks like a very good camera with a super suctiony suction cup. One of the annoyances of dash cams is crappy suction cups that do not hold. Their recommended ZeroEdge Z3 cam for $100 looks really good. Good link to the Wirecutter from CPPTango30. He bought the optional GPS base so he can review a trip on the computer showing speed and all that but the camera by itself is plenty for basic protection. I like how compact they are and how they hug the windshield. My dad has two of these A119's and they seem to be working well for him. It originally wouldn't make it 12 hours but I eventually found a firmware out there that allowed it to at least last consecutive weekdays but I still lose it over the weekend. The cam itself functions fine and takes nice video but because it always forgets the time it's extremely difficult to find a specific clip when they all have nearly identical names. The trouble with it is there is no backup battery for the internal clock so if my truck sits for more than 18-24 hours the time falls back to 12:00AM. The G1W was originally designed to use a rechargeable battery and the 'C' version replaces that battery with a capacitor which is great for dealing with the summer heat. I have a G1W-CB and I wouldn't recommend it.
